Present Situation of Cyclone Amphan
A very strong cyclone Ampan hit the coast of Bangladesh at around 4 pm on Wednesday. On the east side of the sea coast, the Sundarbans pass through West Bengal and Bangladesh. According to information from WMO, in 2000, the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones at its twenty-seventh Session held in 2000 in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman agreed to assign names to the tropical cyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. And the naming began in 2004 with inputs from eight members. Since that time five more countries have joined the panel, making it a total of 1 country.
Preparation to Manage the Cyclone Amphan
21 lakh people are being taken to shelters: 12 thousand 6 shelters have been prepared for 51 lakh 90 thousand people in the context of the cyclone Amphan coastal rush, said the Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief. Holidays of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Water Resources canceled: All the leave of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Water Resources has been canceled in response to the flood. Deputy Minister for Water Resources Enamul Haque Shamim said the Ministry of Water Resources has made all preparations to deal with the impending cyclone. The cyclone situation is being monitored around the clock.
The sea is rough due to the impact of cyclone Ampan created in the Bay of Bengal. The meteorological department has asked Cox's Bazar and Chittagong seaports to display danger signal number 6 and Mongla and Payra seaports to display signal number 7.
Cyclone Ampan has changed direction more than once, said Abdur Rahman, an assistant meteorologist at the Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office.
Abdur Rahman said, "In the current situation, the cyclone could cross the coast of Bangladesh between Chittagong and Khulna."

Meanwhile, the administration of Cox's Bazar has taken great precautions to deal with cyclone Ampan. In addition to keeping 10,000 volunteers ready in 34 Rohingya camps, members of the army have been training all day on Monday.
Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) said. Kamal Hossain said the district disaster management committee held several meetings on Sunday and today. 56 shelters and 25 Mujib forts have been set up so that 5 lacks and 6 thousand people can take shelter while maintaining social distancing. At the same time, as the educational institutions are closed, they have been cleaned yesterday and made suitable for use as shelters. Several hotels in Cox's Bazar city have also been made ready for use as shelters.
According to the district administration, everything has been prepared including vehicles to take the people from the coastal areas to the shelter.
The district relief branch said there were adequate food and dry food stocks.
Cox's Bazar Civil Surgeon Dr. Mahbubur Rahman said 61 medical teams and eight rapid response teams have been kept ready.
Major General Main Ullah Chowdhury, GOC of the Army's 10th Infantry Division, said extensive preparations have been made to keep the Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh safe during the cyclone. 10,000 volunteers have been deployed in 36 Rohingya camps in Ukhia-Teknaf. Today, rehearsals have been held in the camps on this subject throughout the day. The people's representatives are working to evacuate the people from the coastal areas of Cox's Bazar.
Maheshkhali's Kalarmarchhara Union Parishad chairman Tareq bin Osman Sharif said miking was being done in his area from this afternoon. They are working to keep everyone at a distance and bring them to the shelter so that the corona infection does not spread.
In addition, the CPB and Red Crescent volunteers are ready to deal with cyclone Ampan, the authorities said.
Meanwhile, the sea waves are bigger than before. Although most of the fishing trawlers have returned from the sea, many trawlers have not returned yet, said Abdul Khaleq, general secretary of the Cox's Bazar District Boat Owners Association.
