What are the differences between hotels and motels?

The difference between hotel and motel

There are two types of accommodation for travellers or tourists. One is a hotel and the other is a motel. Although both are accommodations, some facilities have made a difference between hotels and motels.

What is Hotel?

The term hotel was introduced in 1800. It comes from the French word. A hotel is a place where accommodation for tourists is provided along with food, lounge, gym, entertainment and other facilities. Customers can take these if they want. The traveller stays at the hotel mainly to stay on certain days. The hotel has well-arranged food, security, swimming arrangements.

What is a Motel?

The idea for the motel came from America. The concept of the motel was widely introduced in the 1920s. Motels also began to gain popularity in America with the improvement of the highway system. It mainly serves as a rest house on the side of the highway. The motel also offers accommodation and food to tourists. However, there are no additional benefits here. Tourists stay in motels to rest on long journeys. You have to come here and go directly to your allotted room.

A motel is targeted toward those travelling on the highway who want a break from their journey. A hotel is targeted at all sorts of people, such as business people, travellers, students, etc. Even so, few motels or hotels will turn away long-stays

All in all, the hotel is huge and the motel is small. It usually costs more to stay in a hotel than in a motel.
