How Fast Disapearing the Forest Near You?
Did you realized how fast forest is disapearing sorrounding you? It is disapearing as fast that we do not think. A report of world bank said that- forests still cover about 30 percent of the world's land area, but they are disappearing at an alarming rate. Between 1990 and 2016, the world lost 502,000 square miles (1.3 million square kilometers) of forest, according to the World Bank—an area larger than South Africa.
How much is there of the different kinds of forests?
Two specific forest types, mangroves and bamboo, have been the subject of supplementary study. Mangroves cover an estimated 152 000 km2 and bamboo some 400 000 km2. Estimates indicate that about 60 000 km2 per year of primary forest have been lost or modified by logging or other human interventions since 1990 (not considering losses in the Russian Federation), and there is no indication that the loss of primary forests is slowing down.
More than 200,000 acres of rainforest are burned every day. That is more than 150 acres lost every minute of every day, and 78 million acres lost every year! More than 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest is already gone.
Plants and animals will lose their food and shelter. Floods: Bald hills and mountains can no longer hold back sudden flows of water, which cause floods. Increase in carbon dioxide: Depletion of forests results in increase in carbon dioxide, which will cause global warming.
5 ways to stop deforestation
- Plant a tree.
- Go paperless.
- Recycle and buy recycled products.
- Look for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification on wood and wood products.
- Eat vegetarian meals as often as possible.
137 species of animals are becoming extinct each day, which adds up to 50,000 species disappearing every year, because of deforestation. If we dont act now, 10% of the worlds species will die out within the next 25 years.
We all should remember every day that without trees, humans would not be able survive because the air would be unsuitable for breathing. If anything, people would have to develop gas masks that filter the little oxygen that would be left in the air.
