As mentioned, it's best to be realistic about the trip and what you can afford. If you're on a tight budget, traveling to one (or more) of the countries with the lowest cost of living can make your life a lot easier. It's best to start with a budget plan. When choosing a location, research the average cost of transportation, accommodation, meals, and other expenses such as B. for the experiences you want to experience while traveling. Take Europe as an example - the Nordic countries like Iceland and Denmark in the north are usually very expensive, but Eastern Europe is the complete opposite. If you want to save even more, especially for longer trips, consider a trip to Southeast Asia or Latin America, where the cost of living and currencies in most countries make it easier to travel cheaply.

However, if you really want to travel to an expensive country, the following tips can help you keep your travel costs down.

2. Do your research to find the cheapest airfare

One of the most expensive parts of traveling, especially abroad, is transportation. If you fly far, you might fly there.
A great trick for traveling smarter is to search for flights in incognito mode in your web browser. If you can be flexible with your travel dates, you're more likely to find cheap flights. If you want to travel cheap, it's best to book flights outside of school holidays so you don't have to pay higher prices. For example, some airlines offer cheaper flights on Tuesdays.

Depending on where you're traveling, you can also get there by bus or train, even if the journey is longer. It might not only be cheaper, but more sustainable. If you're flying, it's also good to know prices in cities or countries near your destination - it may be worth changing transport from there.

3. Cook Your Own Meals While Traveling, Cut Meal Costs

Cooking for yourself is a great way to travel cheaply Sure, eating and drinking outside is fine, but you don't have to do it with every meal. One of the basic principles of cheap travel is determining what you really need and what you don't have to live with. My advice is to pick a few places that you really want to try and set a budget for them. The rest of the time you can cook for yourself. With that in mind, I recommend staying somewhere with a kitchen, like a hotel or apartment.

If you don't have access to a kitchen, you can still buy produce from a local supermarket and make your own breakfasts and snacks. As for dinner, if you want something hot then fast food places are a good shout and they don't always have to be unhealthy. It's also good to look for local restaurants with cheap lunch menus, or street food stalls that allow you to explore local flavors for cheap. Top tip: Help reduce food waste and save money with apps like Too Good To Go where you can get the end-of-day food that's been highly discounted. Also, many supermarkets reduce their food at the end of the day too. Always worth looking out for.
